So this weeks will be short but I can think of no other verse that epitomizes Joshua better than chapter 24:15. Probably in most Christian homes on the wall in some abbreviated form is Joshua’s declaration to whom he will serve.

“And if it is evil in your eyes to serve the Lord, choose this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your fathers served in the region beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites in whoe land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.”

Lest we think this rebuke was just an issue in Joshua’s time, remember you were made for worship. Some may be worshipping sleep, money, sex, work, their children etc but make no mistake you are worshipping. So how do we know as Christian’s if we are worshipping something other than God? The apostle Paul gave us a charge in 2 Corinthians 13:5 to “examine ourselves”. How do examine ourselves…honestly? I enjoy hunting and if the snow is fresh I find no better method than following the tracks. They always lead you to what is making the tracks.  How does this apply to examining yourself? The two clearest (tracks you can’t run away from) indicators you have in your life that we all have in common is time and treasure. Some have more treasure (money) than others, but I’ve noticed over the years even the absence of something can still reveal worship. Jesus said where your treasure is there your heart will be also (Matt 6:21). So track your time and your treasure. Do you want to see what you’re worshipping, see what you do with your time and your money?

If you’ve taken time to read this blog it would be a fair assumption that you’re at least spending a little time in God’s Word. I find one of the biggest issues in people who profess to be Christian’s lives is they spend little to no time in His Word. How can you know Him unless you spend time with Him? It is very revealing that those who profess to know Him and don’t spend any time with Him are regarded as seeds with no root (parable of the sower-Matt 13) or in the Sermon on the Mount they are not even up to being considered foolish builders because they don’t even hear the word let alone do it. (Matt 6:24-27)

So do you want to see what you’re worshipping…track your time and track your treasure you can’t run away from these clear indicators as to what YOU are chasing. As the Israelites are about to find out in Judges with out Joshua’s leadership their hearts are about to be tested. (Judges 2:22)
All for now.
